About This Course

The Support Roles Induction course is a new approach to induction for all support roles on the Leadership Development Programme (LDP) – Participant Development Leads (PDLs), mentors and tutors.

This blended approach comprises of completing this online course, as well as attending a face-to-face induction session which will focus on applying learning from the online course and further skills development. The online element of the course allows you to complete the learning content at a time, pace and place that suits you.

The course includes five modules:

  • Working with Teach First
  • The Leadership Development Programme and model of support
  • Your role in assessing and monitoring participant progress
  • Your role in developing participant practice
  • Your role in supporting the PGDE curriculum

The Support Roles Induction course has been designed specifically for your role and includes both core content and additional extension content.

Jess is the course lead for this course, but you will also hear from other experts including a number of Teach First employees and other educational experts who will share essential information and advice.

Jess is a 2013 Teach First ambassador and has since supported participants on the LDP in south London. Jess now works in the Learning and Development team with a focus on mentor, tutor and blended learning and development.

2. Who should take this course?

The Support Roles Induction course is for all PDLs, mentors and tutors.

3. How can I get access to the course?

You must first register for your Teach FirstX account, using your school (mentors), university (tutors) or Teach First email address (PDLs). Your Teach First local area team will then ensure that you are enrolled onto the course.

4. Can I access this course using my smartphone or tablet?

Yes, this course is available on both desktop and mobile. If you would like to take the course on a smartphone or tablet, you will need to download the Teach FirstX app for either Android or iOS, depending on your device.

5. How long will the course run for?

The course will be open all year, although we recommend you complete as much of the course as possible prior to attending your face-to-face induction. Once you are enrolled in the course, you can work through the content at your own pace. Feel free to access any part of the content at any time.

6. Do I need to complete all content in the course?

Mentors – you will be given guidance on which content to complete, depending on whether you are a new or returning mentor, a subject/phase mentor or an SLT Lead (Professional) Mentor.
PDLs – you will need to complete all the content and activities for your role group.
Tutors – you will have the opportunity to complete all content and activities.

7. Is the course assessed?

There are a number of short activities and assessments throughout the course to check your understanding. Once you have worked through all the course content, you must complete the short questionnaire at the end of the course to mark your completion, and provide feedback on the online materials.
